About
A Little About Me
My name is Elaine Sun, I was born in Hong Kong and have been living in Thornhill, Ontario since I was four years old.
You could say I have had the atypical Canadian suburban upbringing and have been heavily involved with sports and activites from a very young age. I attended St. Robert CHS and moved on to the University of Toronto where I graduated in 2007 with a BA in History and Political Science.
I've done quite a bit of travel since I was a kid and feel as though I've been heavily influenced personally, professionally and spiritually by a hodge podge of people, cultures and locales. It is my goal and hope that I can continue with my travels into the future.
Other than that, I lead a pretty average life. Plugging away each day and hoping that tomorrow will be a better day than today! :)
Why GoBigRed Designs?
In 1997, I launched my first-ever website: a fansite dedicated to my favourite singer, hosted at geocities. I self-taught myself HTML and the layout basically consisted of one massively long page that featured a multi-coloured swirl background wallpaper and a clashing coloured scrolling marquee that would blink excessively. I am surprised that nobody passed out from seeing it! Since then, I've (hopefully!) improved on my website design skills and have started, maintained and closed a plethora of websites over the years. In early 1999 I started one of the largest Mia Hamm and US Women's National Soccer Team fansites which capitalized on the success and popularity of the USWNT and the 1999 Women's World Cup. Over that summer, my websites generated over a million hits and I established myself in the women's soccer online community. I also created other fansites in support of individual American players and professional teams in the now defunct WUSA league.
In 2001 I turned my focus to Canadian Women's Soccer and launched a simple fansite dedicated to Team Canada - Go Big Red!! Within a year the site grew exponentially, moved to its own domain at GoBigRed.ca and was buoyed with the unexpected support and contributions of various members of Team Canada. Since then, GoBigRed.ca has become one of the leading sources of news, information and unique content about Team Canada as well as one of the largest fansites dedicated to women's soccer online.
The last few years I dabbled in web design for friends and family when the opportunity presented itself. I also designed websites for a couple of Team Canada players, other soccer-related businesses and was told that I could definitely expand my reach and scope.
While I am not formally trained in any aspects of web design or coding, I believe I am fully capable of creating websites in an experienced manner with a personal touch. I launched GoBigRed Designs with this in mind, and am looking forward to working with you in your web design project!
